Thames View Infants is a unique place to learn. Our children thrive. Our learning culture prepares children exceptionally well for the next stage in their life-long journey. The documents on this page help to capture the essence of this unique “sparkle” and our special vision for learning.
Signature Pedagogy
Parents ask us about how we organise and structure learning and lessons with the School day. We have a distinct learning ethos and the below documentation helps describe this “signature pedagogy”.
Curriculum Sequencing
Our curriculum is carefully planned and particularly well sequenced. Knowledge and skills are introduced, consolidated and then revisited, ensuring learning deepens over time. In the spirit of Bruner’s Spiral Curriculum, children move from first-hand, practical and concrete experiences, to progressively more abstract learning, as skills are applied and mastery is deepened. This is embedded within and across subjects. Our curriculum has it’s foundations within the Early Years’ Framework and the National Curriculum Programmes of Study, sculpted by the School’s Leadership Team. It aspires to prepare children exceptionally well for the next stage of their development and education; including a successful transition into the Year 3 curriculum at Thames View Juniors. It gives children the best educational start, equipping them with the skills and attributes for later life, aspiring for them to access the full range of higher and further educational establishments. Our curriculum has evolved over time, with leaders adapting and modifying in response to the changing needs of the children, statutory requirements and their own expertise.
Level Descriptors
Within KS1, we measure children’s attainment using our own Development Stage Level Descriptors. We present those for Writing, Maths and Science here, as many parents find them useful. More information about how we assess children can be found in our Policy for Learning and Teaching. Our teachers are always happy to help and explain more too.
